The expected yearly incomes for veterinary technicians will vary depending on many factors.  Level of experience, level of education, location of employment and the size of the facility are all things that change the yearly salaries.  Those technicians who choose to continue in education by receiving a bachelor’s degree, will find more options for work in more specialized categories.  Generally, these technicians will get registered as technologists, which allows them to participate in more difficult procedures while also receiving higher compensations.

The pay range depending on the state of residence will vary for veterinary technicians.  Technicians residing in Florida are reporting the lowest in yearly income at $18,710 per year.  New York boasts the highest paid technicians with incomes averaging $24,920 per year.  Technicians living in California can expect to earn on average of $22,650 per year while those in North Carolina earn $19,960 per year.  Individuals who choose this career based on the potential earnings should check each state and local city in order to receive the most competitive wages.  The difference in state earnings is generally consistent with the cost of living associated with each state, so the difference in wages may work out to be the same.

Technicians who excel in their fields, and work hard to gain knowledge have the chance for advancement.  There are opportunities for individuals in animal clinics to also earn more by becoming an office manager.  This would mean handling clerical work and training new employees while also maintaining the environment surrounding the welfare of the animals.  Some technicians may also use this position as a stepping-stone to gain more knowledge in the hopes of becoming a veterinarian.  This is a great way to get a feel for the industry while learning hands-on how to care for animals.
